Gimli

A dwarf of the House of Durin and a member of the Fellowship of the Ring. Unlike the other dwarves, he fought alongside Elves in the War of the Ring; most famously, he fought with Legolas of the Woodland Realm. After the defeat of Sauron, in the early years of the Fourth Age, he was given lordship of the Glittering Caves under Helm's Deep, of which he was lord until he departed Middle-earth into the West. The Hobbit He was the son of Glóin and the nephew of Óin, both former companions of Bilbo Baggins. It has been stated by Tolkien that Gimli was too young to travel with his father for the Quest of Erebor, though Gimli, being in his sixties, thought that he was old enough. The Lord of the Rings In The Lord of the Rings, Gimli was a valuable member of the Fellowship of the Ring, not only because of his combat abilities, but also because of his knowledge of Dwarven culture and traditions. He was introduced alongside his father Glóin at Rivendell, where they came because there was a Dark Rider in front of Erebor asking for Bilbo Baggins. After the Council of Elrond, he departed with the rest of the Fellowship to destroy the Ring. His highlights include: His valuable assistance in Moria; Fighting alongside Legolas, Aragorn, and Boromir, including at Boromir’s passing; Fighting in Helm's Deep; Fighting on the Pelennor Fields. After The Lord of the Rings After the Ring was destroyed and the Fellowship was disbanded, Gimli went on adventures with Legolas. First, they went to the Glittering Caves under Helm's Deep, and then they went to Fangorn Forest. After that, he went back to Erebor to gather a group of dwarves to go to Gondor, where they helped rebuild Minas Tirith and founded a kingdom in the Glittering Caves, where Gimli stayed for many years. After those years, it is said that Legolas and he sailed to the West.
